UK Anti-Corruption Coalition Experts React to the Government’s New Anti-Corruption Strategy

On Monday 8 December the Government published their long-awaited anti-corruption strategy.

The UK Anti-Corruption Coalition – a first of its kind coalition bringing together the UK’s leading anti-corruption organisations – warmly welcomes the publication of this wide ranging strategy as a critical step forward in the fight against corruption. But after almost three years without one, these commitments must turn into real impact – fast. And glaring gaps remain, including on political integrity, defence procurement, whistleblowing, and the ongoing fight against illicit finance.

In this document, our experts weigh in on what features in the strategy, what is missing, and what is needed to ensure its effective and rapid implementation. We the strategy using 7 different lenses, pulling from the rich expertise across the coalition — namely, whistleblowing; political integrity; illicit finance; domestic corruption and local government; SLAPPs; procurement; and enforcement.

In the following weeks and months, as a coalition of anti-corruption experts we will be holding the government’s feet to the fire to address the identified gaps and ensure that the government implements this strategy with the urgency it requires.

This document is our immediate analysis since the strategy’s release. Our members will update and publish fuller analyses in due course.
